DISSOLUTION OF THE EGO

AND THE UNION OF MAN

Ego cannot really “die”.  “Dissolution of the ego” is the advanced and persistent work of separating two things that cannot live side by side and uniting all other things that go together.

Dissolution of the ego so becomes a state of consciousness, a perfect peace of mind that occurs spontaneously but after a long and dedicated practices. One of such practices are the one of Hatha Yoga, which is of course not pure physical exercise of bones and muscles.

Brief on How Yoga Practice Affects You

Through two openings on each side of the spine, through two physical passages of the nerves flow two prana channels or Nadis.

Prana is a vital energy or life force. Prana is also called Ki, Chi or Mana. The term “energy” is used here for lack of a better word.

The word nadi means river or canal. The nadis are not nerves but subtle channels that carry prana. According to ancient texts of Yoga, there are 72,000 nadis. Siva Samhita, another Hatha Yoga text speaks of 350,000 nadis.

When the energy channels and energy centers are opened, purified and united, then the ego can also fall apart. All defects of self such as fear, anger, hatred, greed, self-deception are separated from self and ego.

This condition was known to the ancient Indian people and this type of Yoga is called Laya Yoga.

The Sanskrit word laya means separation.

It is turiya, the sum of all three states of consciousness. It is the transcendent state of the highest truth.

This is the point on the symbol of OM.

Can Laya Yoga be Practiced?

There are many ways that help us to separate the ego from its dark sides. This whole book-web site talks about them. You can start reading from this page.

The ego cannot be “destroyed”. Without ego we wouldn’t be here. The ego contains human motives, desires, intentions, ideas.

There is nothing wrong with the ego but it can definitely be brought under control. And ego control, like all decisions, are decisions that happen in the personal mind.

Without ego control, man is an animal like any other animal that sweats, have sex, eats, excretes feces.

As with all higher states of consciousness and higher unification, Laya Yoga is achieved by a dedicated and honest practice of concentration and meditation.

As with all the higher Yogas, concentration and meditation alone can be fruitful only if both body and mind are purified.
