People who study how the brain of living beings thinks, feels and understands and how machines work (which are made by people) believe that this strange and complicated situation mentioned above happens in our brain.

It is said that in the cortex (the outer layer of the brain) there are some areas that receive and process the informations from our organs of touch, sight and sound via receptors. Those areas control certain parts of the body.

What we know (or suppose) is that the cortex looks like a map:

This “little man” behind another little man, who is again behind another little man in our head, is called Homunculus. The image above represents which parts of the body belong to certain places in our brain.

Thus, say scientists who study the human brain, the bigger importance of sense and its organ the larger areas in the cortex.

And, because touch, speech and walking are of great importance to us, the centers in our cerebral cortex for those faculties are the largest.

Deep Relaxation Technique

Yoga Nidra, a yogic technique of deep relaxation, uses the map of the brain called a Homunculus, a “little man”.

Of course, every deep and complete relaxation rests our speedy mind and our tired body, but the practice of deep and complete relaxation in a way that the technique of Yoga Nidra does, brings not only tremendous peace of mind, emotional, mental and body peace, but leads to the greatest depths of that which is hidden within us.

Full and deep relaxation begins with relaxation of the hands and through relaxation of other parts of the body and perception of breathing leads to visualization of chakras, the psycho-energetic areas in us, object and symbols.

What exactly is Yoga Nidra technique and what is not, you can read here and how a visual perception, Homunculus, a deep relaxation and brain waves are related you can read here.
